The son of Sicilian immigrants, he believed that you could accomplish anything you put your mind to, and instilled the same attitude in his eight children when they grew up on Springfield's Prospect Street. Carm was a Navy man in World War II. He had two hobbies - his family and work. Even when the family went to the beach, he'd bring a pad and pencil. Downsizing has been a popular method among auto makers for years as a way to increase efficiency by forcing more oxygen into the combustion process, which allows the engine to be designed smaller and thus take more weight off the overall size of the vehicle. The Scuderi Engine made its French debut today with the opening of the 2009 Spark Ignition Engine of the Future International Conference in Strasbourg, France, that was organized by the Société des Ingénieurs de l'Automobile (SIA) and the Institute for Reciprocating Engines of Universität Karlsruhe (TH). September was a busy month for the Scuderi road crew, making exhibition and speaking engagement appearances in the U.S. and Germany. During the weeks of Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, Scuderi was a featured exhibitor at the International Automobile Association’s Commercial Vehicle Show where the group debuted the diesel designs. A massive two-week long event attended by automobile OEMs, engine enthusiasts, engineers, and the general public, the IAA allowed the Scuderi team to meet new people in the European auto industry and gain even more visibility to the diesel and commercial vehicle markets overseas. Scuderi Group Vice President of Marketing and Sales Nick Scuderi recently participated in the SAE's annual Hybrid Symposium in San Diego. Even with the cloud of doom and gloom hovering over the automotive industry, the event was very well attended and discussions mostly centered on engineering solutions and less on fiscal restructuring. It was very apparent that engineers are feeling the pressure to innovate. From all the presentations and lobby chit chat, it's clear that the industry is struggling to get the lithium's battery's energy density up and cost down, as well as increasing the overall life of the battery. Recovered from jet lag and with a good night's sleep behind them, the Scuderi Team was ready for another full day of exhibiting at the 2008 Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany. With a the remainder of the materials finally released from German Customs, there was plenty of information to distribute to the hundreds of visitors that showed to learn more about the Scuderi Air-Hybrid Engine.
