• Red Herring: Reinventing the engine

By Andrea Quong, June 15, 2007 Alternatively powered cars are hot, but Nevis Engine Company isn’t ready to give up on the dowdy—and dirty—internal combustion engine. The Italian startup, which said Thursday it raised seed funding, aims to reinvent the hundred-year-old engine with new technology it claims can nearly double the fuel efficiency of conventional engines and reduce emissions ... ... [M]aking the internal combustion engine to be ultra-efficient—and thus less gas-guzzling and polluting—is Sisyphean task that no one has yet been able to accomplish. • Nagoya Day Two: An alternative to The Alternatives

The second day of the Nagoya Eco Clean Car Fair brought more exposure to the new technologies that the automotive industry is looking at to be the next generation of vehicles. And, as the Scuderi Group engineers have learned, the Scuderi Engine can give boosts in power and efficiency to even the alternative fuel-powered cars. One such vehicle on display this weekend in Nagoya is the natural gas-powered car. The base split cycle Scuderi Engine has the ability to operate a natural gas automobile at a higher compression ratio than a conventional engine being powered by natural gas. • Edmunds profiles the Scuderi Air Hyrbid Engine

Edmunds Inside Line Report IL Reports: Engineers Say Gasoline Engine Isn't Dead DETROIT — Those who think gasoline is about to go the way of the dinosaur should take note of a strong effort by many firms to prove gas still has its place in the automotive mix. Millions are being spent trying to squeeze more and more efficiency from traditional engines. Many of these were on display at the 2006 Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress here earlier this month. Take, for example, the Scuderi Split-Cycle Air-Hybrid Engine, which offers promise for more efficiency, greater performance and lower emissions...
